In celebration of its 40th birthday, Edinburgh publishers Canongate have announced Future 40 – a list of their favourite cross-genre storytellers. They’ve also put together this amazing shindig at the Jam House, featuring authors Matt Haig, Alasdair Gray and Michael Smith, plus musicians Aidan Moffat, RM Hubbert and Rick Redbeard. Michel Faber (pictured) also appears and there’s a sneak preview of Under the Skin, the movie adaptation of his 2000 sci-fi chiller. The Jam House, Edinburgh, Thu 19 Sep. Like Canongate (see Realist #1), Glasgow Print Studio is also celebrating four decades on the go, with prints by the likes of Alasdair Gray and Toby Paterson (pictured, above). See preview, page 105.
