WIN A PAIR OF TICKETS TO SUTRA
What do you get when you combine a Turner Prize- winning sculptor, Europe’s hottest choreographer, 21 wooden boxes and 17 Buddhist monks? No, this isn’t a zen koan, it’s Sutra, a genre-defying piece of dance theatre that Le Monde called “Impossible to resist… astounding.” After taking Europe by storm, Sutra arrives at Edinburgh’s Festival Theatre for two nights only this Friday 17 & Saturday 18 May. Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui choreographs 17 practicing Buddhist monks, whose ages range between 10 and 26 years, in a series of hypnotic, playful and breathtakingly athletic moves. The set, designed by sculptor Antony Gormley, consists of 21 wooden boxes which are carried and pushed around the stage by the monks, becoming walls, boats, beds, skyscrapers, toys and temples.
