HOW DID YOU GET THAT JOB?
Name Anna Nicholson
Job title Company Director Company Herman Brown
When did you start your job? 1984
So what does your job actually involve? Seeking and finding aesthetically pleasing clothing, jewellery and accessories then sorting, cleaning, displaying and merchandising. Ensuring the shop is well stocked and attending to the more mundane day-to-day running of business affairs. Best / Worst Aspects? Meeting delightful people and finding amazing things! It is a pleasure finding worth in items that have reached a point where they are perceived to be of no further value; it continues to be a source of to surprise to me.
The worst aspect is bureaucracy (there will not be a single shopkeeper who does not know what I mean). Also, the increasing mountains of cheap, mass-produced clothing being discarded daily and, on buying trips, coming upon fine old treasures damaged beyond repair by moths, damp and so on.
Looking back, what advice would you give to a young Anna at the start of her career? Learn to listen to and trust your intuition and instincts first and foremost; open up to elements and people that nourish your innate creativity and avoid those that would thwart that growth.
Always thoroughly read any legal documents that you are ever presented with, however fleetingly they might be waved under your nose! And finally . . . what are you most looking forward to in 2013? The development of an online shop! Note to self: please spend more time enjoying art, theatre and nature!

I SAW YOU
Glasgow ❤ I Saw You at Glad Cafe. I think you were with your brother so I was too scared to approach you... next time! (U/710/1) ❤ I Saw You at Melting Pot. You were the beardy vet from New Mexico who likes pizza crunches and Neutral Milk Hotel. I was too shy to get your number. (U/710/2)
❤ I Saw You. We caught each other’s eyes again before you sank back into the crowd. I swooned to Bilinda and you rocked that bob. You made me glad to be single... (U/710/3)
Edinburgh ❤ I Saw You Tim, clinical psychologist, from Lancashire The Bongo Club 8/3/13. Lost your coat. I found it. You kissed me, bought me a drink, I ran away, sorry. Another chance for Victoria? (U/710/4) ❤ I Saw You. UPHALL ANGEL. Saturday 9th March (12.30pm). We chatted on the train. You were wearing Angel perfume (I guessed correctly). How was Priscilla? Fancy carrying on that conversation? The Rugby Man. (U/710/5)
