HITLIST THE BEST CLASSICAL & OPERA

Scottish Opera: Werther One of the finest of French

operas, Massenet’s Werther hasn’t been staged in Scotland for almost 20 years. It’s the age- old story of obsessive love and the heartbreak that comes along with it, in a new production by Pia Furtado, set in the early part of the 20th century. Theatre Royal, Glasgow, Sat 23 Feb; Festival Theatre, Edinburgh, Tue 26, Thu 28 Feb, Sat 2 Mar.

Queen’s Hall, Edinburgh, Thu 7 Mar; City Halls, Glasgow, Fri 8 Mar.

Nicola Benedetti: The Silver Violin Linked to Benedetti’s recent release of her album of the same name, The Silver Violin is a touring concert programme with popular favourites, and none of them played with less than 100% musical integrity. Nicola Benedetti (pictured, above) is a deservedly beloved star and genuinely delighted to be performing in her homeland. (Carol Main) Usher Hall, Edinburgh, Sat 16 Mar; Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, Fri 29 Mar.
