Fourteen projects will receive a share of more than £500,000 as part of the Year of Natural Scotland. The works will bring together artists and community groups and takes place across the country. Projects include the NVA’s new public artwork, Island Drift, which will use lighting and photographs to transform the southern part of Loch Lomond, writing and walking residencies at four of Scotland’s botanic gardens, as well as the International Environmental Art Festival in Dumfries and Galloway. Basement Jaxx, Example and Madness have been announced as part of this year’s Rockness line-up. Other names on the programme include Bombay Bicycle Club, The Vaccines and Ben Howard, as well as Ellie Goulding, The Maccabees and Jessie Ware. See rockness.co.uk.

As if it weren’t enough that the Edinburgh International Festival launches its programme next month (see list.co.uk for full details from 12 Mar), the Edinburgh International Film Festival is already drip feeding us highlights from their June programme, including the reveal that there will be a retrospective of French director Jean Grémillon. Known for some of the most highly regarded French films of the German occupation, the line-up includes his most famous occupation era classics Remorques (Stormy Waters, 1940), Lumière d’été (Summer Light, 1942) and Le ciel est à vous (The Sky is Yours, also known as The Woman who Dared, 1944).

STO N E C I R C L E U N D E R T H R E AT I N G L AS G OW Mogwai’s Stuart Braithwaite is just one of the names petitioning to save the Sighthill Stone Circle. Erected in 1979 by astronomer and science writer Duncan Lunan, and situated just north of the River Clyde, the historic piece is thought to be Britain’s first aligned stone circle. The Sighthill area is set to be redeveloped as part of Glasgow’s 2018 Youth Olympic Games, putting the stones at threat. Artist and author Alasdair Gray has also backed plans to preserve the space.
