The REALIST

So much culture, so little time. We boil it down to ten of the best events

2 MUSIC Dan Deacon

The absurdist electronica whizz-kid will be bringing his live show to Glasgow following the release of last year’s America LP. Aside from his stark mix of brain- fuddling experimental music and accessible electro- pop tuneage, Deacon’s live shows are renowned for their high levels of audience interaction. See interview, page 73. Stereo, Glasgow, Mon 11 Feb.

1 FILM / MUSIC / CLUBS Sonic Cineplex

3 THEATRE Long Live the Little Knife

The jewel in the crown of this year’s Glasgow Music and Film Festival, Sonic Cineplex is a one-off mini-festival featuring a mash-up of music and cinema. It’s headlined by a double helping of Fritz Lang appreciation: techno legend Jeff Mills is premiering his live cinemix of The Woman in the Moon, while Kluster krautrocker Dieter Moebius will be performing a live score to Metropolis (pictured above). Elsewhere, there will be live AV shows from Daniel Padden, Remember Remember, Raime, Golden Teacher and Neotantrick featuring Andy Votel and Sean Canty. See Jeff Mills interview, page 12. For more Glasgow Music and Film Festival info, see page 72. The Arches, Glasgow, Sat 16 Feb. Sub Rosa creator David Leddy (pictured) returns with a new work in collaboration with his theatre production company Fire Exit. It’s a fast-paced comedy about a pair of con-artists who embark on an art-forgery caper, and is being staged in the site-specific surroundings of Film City. See preview, page 98. Film City, Glasgow, Thu 7–Sat 9 Feb.
