FIVE BEARD TRENDS OF 2012 Jonathan Daniel Pryce has had a busy year, what with exhibiting his street-style portraits at the Jim Haynes Atelier in Paris, being voted Photographer of the Year at this year’s Scottish Fashion Awards and launching his first book, the beautifully captured 100 beards, 100 days. While the photo-blog he co-founded, Les Garçons de Glasgow, takes a pause, the now London-based photographer picks out this year’s key looks in facial grooming, as recorded by his own camera, of course
{1} DESIGNER STUBBLE A classic that doesn’t show any signs of fading, stubble with a few days growth giving that rock’n’roll ‘I just rolled out of bed look’. Beard purists may not consider it a proper beard, but many do.
{2} THE DANDY
Best when worn with some very dapper clothing, this is for the traditionalist. It takes a lot more time and dedication to create this, but once achieved its powers are almost magical. {3} MOUSTABEARD
Found frequently post-Movember, this is a grown-out moustache with beard attached. This growth is required to really make this work.
{4} THE JAW
A sculpted beard used to accentuate a strong jaw. My favourite is when worn as a longer beard, creating a more graphic line. {5} THE GOATEE-BEARD
For the gent who doesn’t like to feel unkempt, this is the most groomed of all. I think it looks best when more growth is left and only small sections at the cheek are removed.
