Winter is Scotland is all about getting cosy with the most delectable comfort foods and good old knees-up to celebrate our most important cultural celebrations - St Andrew’s Day, Christmas, Hogmanay and Burns Night. Scotland’s Winter Festivals’ vibrant event

programme brings together people from all over the world to celebrate Scotland’s modern culture and traditions through the best of Scottish music, arts, food and drink, innovation and entertainment. Kicking off with St Andrews celebrations at the

end of November when many of the country’s top visitor attractions will open to the public for free over the weekend of 1-2 December. Look out for details on Historic Scotland’s popular ticket giveaway at over 40 winter properties. Emergency Exits Arts, one of the UK’s leading

participatory arts companies, have created a show especially for St Andrews celebrations that promises an amazing Scottish carnival of contemporary dance, a fantastic light show, dazzling reworks and a unique twist on the sound of pipes and drums performed on the Edinburgh castle esplanade on the evening of 30 November. Party in Glasgow from 30 November through to 2 December beginning with a packed evening of traditional ceilidh music fused with modern rock. Keep the cold at bay with a wee jig and hot toddies at the ready!

Over the same weekend choirs will be popping up as part of Scotland Sings, from Gaelic choirs in Paisley to a Singing Trail in Perth, make sure you join in and sing from the rooftops! Out in East Lothian, The Saltire (24 Nov-2 Dec) celebrates the history of our national ag while Fife devotes a whole festival in celebration of our patron saint, St Andrews Festival takes place from 23 Nov-2 Dec.
