Open-minded clubbing as Glasgow’s weekly electronica and bass night makes its Edinburgh debut with beats and pieces supplied by Beta & Kappa plus digital dub from Chungo-Bungo. Madame Belle’s at Lulu. Weekly 10pm–3am. £6. Hip hop, R&B, electro, house and dancefloor anthems with a burlesque twist. Octopussy at the HMV Picture House. Weekly 11pm–3am. £5 (students £3). Student night of chart, R&B, electro and indie classics plus bouncy castles, a swimming pool, jacuzzi and plenty of promos.

Zzzap at the Annexe at the Liquid Room. Weekly 10.30pm–3am. £3 before midnight; £5 after. Electro, nu-rave, UV and house party. Bristol blogger, radio station and ‘new music brand’ Eton Messy guest on 23 Aug (with a 5am licence).

Edinburgh Friday Monthly & One Offs Balkanarama at Summerhall. 24 Aug, 10.30pm–3am. £9 in advance; £11 on the door. Klezmer, Balkan, gypsy punk and electronic beats featuring live music, bellydancing, VJs and a live jam session. Festival special with Smash Kafana, Grandma Staflash & Furious Grandads, Kuchke and DJ Kezza. Beats’n’Bobs at Cabaret Voltaire. 24 Aug, 11pm–5am. £5. A Festival special of bass, house, garage and drum & bass from Termite, Diamond & Raw Records DJs, Paranoise, De Courcey and Jaylaxx. The Ladies on Rotation take charge of the back room with a soul, funk and disco mix.

Circus Records Takeover at City Nightclub. 24 Aug, 10pm–5am.

£12 in advance; £15 on the door. The dubstep label take full control of City with a monster line up of Flux Pavilion, Roksonix, Brown & Gammon, Mizuki and Krafty MC. Joined by Taz Buckfaster, Fonik and Robots Can’t Dance all playing out over the 26KW Electrikal Sound System.

The Correspondents at Studio 24. 24 Aug, 11pm–5am. £10. A

bewildering mix of vintage sounds and drum & bass mashed together into a bizarre and exhilarating whole in the hands of Mr Bruce and Chucks. Musika at the Liquid Room. 24 Aug, 9.30pm–5am. £22.50 in advance. Edgy house and electro night. One of the world’s most loved techno DJs, Carl Cox, makes a rare visit to Edinburgh. Big support comes form Yousef while Subculture’s Harri headlines the Annexe. Robigan’s Reggae at Henry’s Cellar Bar. 24 Aug & 7 Sep, 11pm–3am. £5 (students £4). A night of reggae, dancehall and rocksteady. Celebrating 50 years of Jamaican independence with special guest Selecta Mhari on 24 Aug followed by Lex Love (live) on 7 Sep.

Indie-electro night hosted by the Sick Note DJs. Joined by the techno sounds of Turbo Records signings Clouds as they launch their new Conciousness EP. Club 10-86 at the Annexe at the Liquid Room. 31 Aug, 11pm–5am. £10. Cocoon’s Pig & Dan touch down in Scotland for the first time. The globe-trotting Spanish duo have been producing quality house and techno for labels including Soma, Bedrock and Yoshitoshi for over ten years but are better known for their killer live sets. Confusion is Sex at the Bongo Club. 31 Aug, 11pm–3am. £tbc. Twisted and freaky mix of burlesque, glam techno, electro, indie punk and rock’n’roll where ‘the weird is normal’. Grimm’s fairytale theme to end the Fest. The Horndog Brass Band Festival Mash-Up at Studio 24. 31 Aug, 10.30pm–5am. £6 in advance; £8 on the door. Sesame Street present the funky brass band plus soul, house, hip hop and disco from the Mumbo Jumbo and Soul Jam Hot DJs. Numbers at Sneaky Pete’s. 31 Aug, 11pm–5am. £tbc. One of Glasgow’s most eclectic clubbing successes returns to Edinburgh with a mix of dubstep, bass, funky and techno. Festival special that sees Numbers take on Optimo with a Jackmaster x Jonnie Wilkes soundclash.
