You might think you know all there is to know about Glasgow’s Father of Style, Charles Rennie Mackintosh, but h, but the launch of The Glasgow School of School of Art’s intriguing new walking tour based ng tour based around the architect, artist and designer as well ll as a festival dedicated to the man, proves there’s still more to discover. The Glasgow Style tour will take you back to
Mackintosh’s 19th century Glasgow to trace the development of Scottish Art Nouveau and the impact of Mackintosh and his contemporaries on the Victorian city. One visitor described the tour as ‘An enlightening overview of the varied architectural styles in Glasgow, put into the context of Glasgow life, industry & Mackintosh’s career with very friendly, helpful guides!’. Or look to the present and let experienced tour guides show you the sites and secrets of Glasgow’s thriving and current arts scene. The Glasgow Miracle tour will lead you through the places, spaces and artworks that tell the story of creative regeneration in post industrial Glasgow.
The tours, delivered by The Glasgow School of Art are supported by the Mackintosh Heritage Group whose celebrations of Creative Mackintosh culminate in the Creative Mackintosh Festival (15 - 28 October) funded by the Year of Creative Scotland Culture & Tourism Award. The festival will feature a programme of creative arts and cultural events including exhibitions, talks, tours, fi lms, music, dance and drama performances, children’s activities and workshops.
