When did you start your job? Officially, the doors to the boutique opened 16 Aug 2010. Unofficially it was a good few years prior as I plotted and planned my very own venture. So what does your job actually involve? In short I run a beautiful lingerie boutique – the slightly longer version includes being a top notch personal shopper and stylist specialising in lingerie, swimwear and everything else to help you look good naked. Not to mention the general running of the business; marketing, managing, mingling.
Best / Worst Aspects? The not-so-hot aspect is that there just aren’t enough hours in the day to do all the things I’d like to or need to do, but the best is most definitely meeting with customers and clients: revamping their lingerie wardrobes, and seeing the subtle change in poise when I
(un)dress them in something super flattering and perfectly fitting; notching up body confidence with some super chic swimwear; or seeing the stress leave a client as they enjoy something as simple as a manicure over a G&T.
Looking back, what advice would you give to a young Sarah at the start of her career? I started my career in the design industry, so owning and running a lingerie, swimwear and beauty boutique is a giant leap from the aspirations of my earlier years. All of my experiences have been part of bringing me to the here and now; however I should probably still learn not stress so much over things I just can’t control, use my energy more wisely, and learn to take a break once in a while. and finally . . . what are you most looking forward to in 2012? The boutique celebrates its second birthday this August, and has been nominated for several awards – fingers crossed. I’m also VERY excited to have a few days off for the first time.
