4 Lapin Wants Ice Cream The perfect introduction to a foreign language for tiny ones, with French words peppered throughout this puppet show by Edinburgh’s Le Petit Monde. Institut français d’Ecosse, 225, 5366, until 27 Aug (not 26), 10am, £7 (£5).

The Elves and the Shoemaker Last chance to see some of the finest puppets in town, courtesy of the Theatre of Widdershins. Scottish Storytelling Centre, 556 9579, until 26 Aug, 1pm, £8.50 (£6.50). Horrible Histories Barmy Britain Fascinating facts wrapped up in an engaging show that doesn’t shy away from the gory stuff.
