HEATHER LEIGH
What time is breakfast? Usually about 10am. Always a homemade fruit and vegetable smoothie these days.
Tea or coffee? Hot water with lemon or herbal tea, though my friend Andrew Paine has recently introduced me to matcha and I love the ritual.
Smoking or non-smoking? Non-smoking.
Sweet or savoury snacks? Savoury, usually cheese or cashew nut butter with oat cakes, or when on the road raw nuts will do. What food do you miss when you tour? Smoothies! And my husband’s gourmet cooking, it doesn’t matter what type of cuisine he makes, it’s always perfection.
Who’s the best cook you know? My husband, David Keenan.
What’s on your rider? Fresh/local/organic food preferred and ‘no homemade slop’ (stole that one from [Vermont musical duo] MV & EE’s rider), microbrews and a bed; I don’t sleep on floors. Which country/city has the best food? I’ve had the best culinary experiences in restaurants in Italy, Spain and Texas but for home cooking I can get all the ingredients I need in Glasgow at Roots & Fruits, I J Mellis or George Mewes, Lupe Pintos and my favourite fishmonger, Fantoosh.
Do you eat out a lot? Not very often but if I do it’s usually Mother India, Stravaigan, Café Gandolfi, Pintos or a cheeseboard at BrewDog to accompany their wonderful selection of microbrews.
Do you drink onstage? Only water, I’ve always found something a little unclassy about swigging a beer on stage. ■ Heather Leigh and Richard Youngs, The Old Hairdressers, Glasgow, Sat 18 Aug.
