BOOK Bookworms rejoice: the search is on for The League of Extraordinary Booklovers – a group of people willing to volunteer their interests and passions for Book Week Scotland (26 Nov–2 Dec), as part of a nationwide Q&A session on twitter. Nominations begin now, so nominate yourself or someone you know to: TheLeague@ scottishbooktrust.com stating in 300 words or less why that person should be chosen to join The League. Scottish Book Trust will choose members of The League from applications submitted by 14 Sep.
THEATRE The programme of shows for the coming 18 months is as strong as ever at Edinburgh’s Festival and King’s theatres, with critically acclaimed show War Horse appearing at the former in early 2014, as part of the National Theatre’s nine-month tour of the UK starting in September 2013. VISUAL ART A major new exhibition, Scotland Can Make It, is heading for the People’s Palace in Glasgow, ahead of a film that will tour Scotland in 2013. The Clipperton Project transforms Glasgow gallery
C reative experiments abound this month at the Glasgow Sculpture Studio, as the ever- inventive Clipperton Project continues to inspire with a three-month programme of events, workshops and artworks aimed at raising the awareness of the environmental impact of human activities on some of the world’s most remote and least habited spaces. Housed in the GSS’s new gallery space, the Whisky Bond, by the canal at Speirs Lock, the project will celebrate and educate
through a programme of film, talks and rolling exhibitions. Artists involved in the Glasgow strand include Mexican photographer Miguel Alcalde, US painter Martin Machado, French visual artist Julie Morel and Scottish ceramicist Linsay Saunders.
