EAT SLEEP & BREATHE

HOT DUB TIME MACHINE Aussie DJ/ VJ Tom Loud: a bit like DJ Yoda meets

Quantum Leap. His clubnight takes you musically from the 50s to the present day, and he likes beer and Red Bull while he’s at the decks . . . What time is breakfast?

Early! I lost the ability to sleep in when I turned 30! No matter how late I stay up, (often VERY late, my show finishes at 3am) I’ll be having breakfast before 9am. I make up for it by taking disco naps before I perform.

Tea or coffee?

Tea. I drink coffee sporadically, so that the caffeine can really kick me along when I need it. Smoking or non-smoking?

Non-smoking! (for three months anyway.) It’s going to be tough to make it through the Fringe without smoking, but I’m going to give it a real go this time . . . Sweet or savoury snacks?

Savoury. I’m anti-dessert. It can be a lonely position at the end of a dinner when everyone is getting into a crème brulée, but I just don’t dig desserts.

What food do you miss when you tour? Healthy food of any kind. I

regress to a fast food existence. Who’s the best cook you know? My wife. She can knock up a meal out of the most pathetic and unpromising ingre- dients when neither of us can be bothered shopping.

What’s on your rider?

Six-pack of beer, six-pack of water, six-pack of Red Bull and a towel. Which country/city has the best food? Hmmmmmm. Malaysia. Home of the laksa.

Do you eat out a lot?

When I’m touring I lose the ability to cook or look after my most basic functions, so I always eat out. Do you drink onstage?

YES!! I’m a DJ! If everyone else is having a beer, it seems rude not to get involved. Gilded Balloon Teviot, 622 6552, 3–27 Aug (not 6–8, 13–15 or 20–22), midnight, £11–£12 (£10-11).
