For the 5th the 5th year running, Fringe nge by the Sea returns ns with an eclectic mix of music, comedy, theatre, fi lm, authors- in-conversation and, of course, the ever-popular children’s programme (not just for the kids!). . TAKE ONE ICONIC IC VENUE... The hub of the action, The tion, The Spiegeltent, will take over the ake over the harbour and host names such as The Manfreds, Fat Sam’s, Sharon Shannon, Neil Innes (pictured), Kate Rusby, Phil Cunningham & Aly Bain - all recognised by those in the know as being giants in their genres.
ADD A DOSE OF QUIRKINESS... Ever been to a concert in a Seabird Centre? The Carrivick Sisters as well as Dave Vernon & Dick Lee will be here to entertain you in this quirky venue. And back by popular demand, The Alleycats and A Fyne Pear. MIX IN A SPRINKLING OF NOSTALGIA... St Andrew Blackadder hosts Fringe by the Sea’s fi rst foray into Gilbert & Sullivan with The Mikado, while this year’s fi lm season harks to the Olympics with a ‘great sporting fi lms’ retrospective.
STIR IN SOME BIG NAMES… In the afternoons, the Authors-in-Conversation events return – names already ‘booked’ to appear include Iain Banks, Tm Dalyell, Mary Contini, Sara Sheridan and Sally Magnusson. DON’T FORGET THE SECRET INGREDIENT... Did you know the festival claims the brilliant Kevin Bridges as ‘emerging talent’ when he performed at the festival in 2008? Perhaps you’ll catch another up-and-coming comedian at one of the three nights of Stand-Up Comedy.
BLEND IN FUN FOR THE FAMILY... Come rain or shine, an exciting children’s programme is essential. Please welcome The Singing Kettle, Mr Boom, Jo Jingles and Fischy Music to the stage.
Finally, season with some Irish Dancing, Jazz at The Glen, Dave Berry’s walks and a Sunday lunchtime Gospel concert and dish up the mammoth programme that awaits you at Fringe by the Sea.
