Fashion forward Edinburgh International Fashion Festival launches in style Words: Suzanne Neilson
T he capital’s ever-burgeoning Summerhall space will welcome a host of fashionistas this August, as the Edinburgh International Fashion Festival struts into the venue’s already sizeable summer programme.
Fashion industry glitterati in attendance will include Scottish supermodel Stella Tennant and award- winning British designer Hussein Chalayan. The festival’s mantra ‘Fashion is Art’ will be recognised through catwalk shows, masterclasses, exhibitions and talks focusing on the relationship between science, art, design and architecture. John Galliano and Karl Lagerfeld muse, Lady Amanda Harlech, will discuss how she inspired the two legendary designers at Chanel, and scent expert, Sissel Tolaas will unveil her exclusive project for the festival, a
collaborative project with Berlin fashion designer, Kostas Murkudis. An exhibition will look at the blurred line between art and couture fashion, with photographic work by Juergen Teller and video installations by Hussein Chalayan, alongside sensual hanging sculptures by Aurora Passero and a collection of Chanel and Galliano couture pieces.
