BURNS BRIGHTLY IN SOUTH AYRSHIRE The Roofl ess programme kicked off with a bang in South Ayrshire as part of the Burns an’ a’ that! Festival. Ayr welcomed an impressive, gigantic cardboard tower by artist Olivier Grossetête who worked with hundreds of schollchildren on its construction while Roofl ess artists Jane Pitt, Alan Bissett and Diane Torr hosted interactive workshops and talks, bringing the spirit of Enlightenment debate back to Ayrshire.
HALLS OF FAME IN DUMFRIES & GALLOWAY 7–9, 14–16 September Enter a magical, interactive world of fairytale castles, dreamscapes and theatre sets within transformed Ecclefechan, Moniaive and Gatehouse of Fleet town halls all created by a team comprised of professional artists and community groups, and culminating in a virtual town hall in Dumfries. ENGINE TUNING IN SHETLAND August Witness a giant, musical ‘condor’ constructed entirely from parts of one single Land Rover emerge from a trailer as it tours rural locations in Shetland, picking up ‘gifts of music’ as it passes. Created by artist Sumit Sarkar, this huge robot is inspired in part by the fi lm and toy series Transformers.
MAELSTROM IN ABERDEENSHIRE 2 November The streets of Fraserburgh will come alive with the spectacular sight and sound of fi reworks, mobile sculptures, street theatre and circus pieces as part of a parade involving over 1,000 young people and themed around local legends of the Kinnaird Head lighthouse. HELIX IN FALKIRK Spring/Summer 2013 Look forward to next summer when the brand new Helix Park between Falkirk and Grangemouth will come alive with street arts, performance, parkour, graffi ti artists and music.
