WHO’S AROUND YOUR BIT OF TOWN?
Name: Sonia Turosienski Age: 20
Occupation: Law student Lives: Edinburgh
Favourite place to eat and drink? I really like The Outsider because it has a beautiful view of the castle. It’s a nice low-key place and the food is great. I love Bar Kohl too; it has millions of drinks and does pitchers to share. Best day/night out? Definitely Temple at Silk on a Thursday. It isn’t too expensive and it’s just a good-quality place. It’s mostly students and doesn’t get too packed.
Favourite quiet spot or hidden gem? I’d really recommend Freemans on Spottiswoode Road (just off Marchmont Road) – it’s a nice little new café. Lots of families go there, so the atmosphere is always warm and friendly. (Andrew Latimer)
South Side Festival Queen’s Park’s community festival, with a parade followed by music, food and festivities. Queen’s Park Recreation Ground, Glasgow, Sat 26 & Sun 27 May.
Meadows Festival A family-focused funday on the southside, with workshops, music, bundles of stalls and a children’s football league. The Meadows, Edinburgh, Sat 2 & Sun 3 Jun.
The School of Life: Live Tour Need life advice? Ask John Paul Flintoff and Alain de Botton for their take on work, love, family and everything in between. The Hub, Edinburgh, Thu 24 May.
Inspiring Encounters: Philip Glass The composer gives a talk on his life, influence and prolific body of work. The Old Fruitmarket, Glasgow, Thu 24 May.
