James Blackshaw and Rob St John
Blackshaw’s name often comes prefaced with the word ‘virtuoso’, and you’ll hear no objections from us about it. The 12-string acoustic guitarist returns to Scotland to perform his alternative, ambient folk music. He’s developed a unique fingerpicking style, providing a soft dynamic in his music fitting for the folk clubs and churches where he often performs – or in this case, a high school.
His latest album Love Is the Plan, the Plan is Death (Important Records, out 24 Apr) contains six original pieces, with titles lovingly misappropriated from short stories by science fiction author James Tiptree Jr (aka Alice B Sheldon).
