W e’re only four months into The Year of Creative Scotland, the beginning of an exciting programme that will embrace London 2012 and celebrate Glasgow 2014, and yet we’ve already seen some exhilarating experiences with hundreds more to come. 2012 is not just about new initiatives; it’s about showcasing the range and breadth of quality artistic and cultural output that we produce every year, and it’s about giving creative organisations a platform to promote their work all as part of a signifi cant national effort to inspire. The Year is a unique opportunity to raise the numbers of people taking part in and enjoying a rich creative life. It began with a bang at Hogmanay as thousands of people took part in the New Year Games, mixing apps, music, dance and live art. January also saw the inaugural Creative Place Awards which recognise the hard work and imagination that goes into developing the creative communities of our winners - Wigtown, West Kilbride and St Andrews. The Year of Creative Scotland gathers momentum in Spring and propels through Summer and beyond. The Rockness Express will bring a train-full of revellers to Inverness in June and watch out for Dancing Voices in July bringing together older dancers and singers for a special performance at the Merchant City Festival. The celebrated Kronos Quartet perform Terry Riley’s Sun Rings live to a spectacular fi lm of deep space at the Riverside Museum, and don’t miss Craig Coulthard’s wonderful Forest Pitch that will host symbolic football games in the heart of a Borders woodland. It’s going to be a year of blooming creativity in Scotland – make sure you make it your Year of Creative Scotland!
