MEET THE CULINARY TALENT BEHIND

Taste of Edinburgh, in partnership with AEG, is back for a sixth year of unforgettable summertime eating, drinking and entertainment. Returning to The Meadows from 6–8 July, Scotland’s biggest food festival will see over 30,000 foodies travel from far and wide to soak up the electric atmosphere and take in a mouth-watering culinary line-up. Representing talent from across the country, 16 Michelin star

and award-winning restaurants will come together in a celebration of Scotland’s outstanding natural larder. Foodie fans can enjoy live cooking demonstrations in the Taste Theatre as some of the country’s greatest chefs share their secrets live on stage. Visitors can also sample the very best food and drink from over 100 artisan producers and brush up on their own culinary skills with hands-on AEG Perfekt Cooking Classes with Edinburgh School of Food & Wine.

And, new for 2012, producers from Orkney and Lanarkshire will bring a different avour to Taste in the Country Kitchen, a new feature offering visitors the opportunity to sample award-winning local produce and ingredients.

‘I love the fun, festival feel of Taste, as well as the opportunity to meet the customers, which is not often possible in the normal working environment of a kitchen. I also love the fast pace of the weekend - previously I’ve had blisters on my hands after turning out so many portions of seabass in one afternoon! This year I plan to take the best

local produce and simplify cooking techniques to make it easy for people to re-create the dishes they try at home.’

VINCAFFE ‘We’ve been at Taste since the start so all our staff are keen to join in the fun. In this Jubilee year of celebration and success, Valvona and Crolla VinCaffe restaurants and foodhalls are enjoying the abundance of world class produce from Scotland. Our menu at Taste of Edinburgh will have a Sicilian avour using Scottish seasonal ingredients. The best meets the best!’

‘Taste is always a lively event. It gets people talking about the culinary scene in Scotland and encourages them to try new food. I’ve a great passion for Scottish produce which is exactly what Taste showcases. Our seafood and game is the best in the world and it’s right on our doorstep. I believe all Scottish restaurants should be using local produce. Its delicious and helps to support suppliers and the food industry in Scotland’

‘This will be our third year at Taste of Edinburgh and we’re looking forward to another outstanding year. It’s a great opportunity to demonstrate simple produce-focussed Italian dishes to over 30,000 visitors in one weekend. Our focus will emphasise our Italian cooking values, while giving visitors a chance to sample popular dishes from our seasonal menus. The Spinach and Ricotta Ravioli was a hit at Taste last year and we’re looking forward to bringing something just as exciting this year!’
