Edinburgh Rocks Music Awards The List teams up with Edinburgh Rocks to celebrate the club talent in the capital. As you’d expect the awards ceremony features some quality Scottish DJing talent and a mystery headliner to be revealed. A Secret Location, Edinburgh, Fri 16 Mar.
Pyramatrix Brand new club night, with hot debut guest in Heartthrob who creates a diverse brand of beat- laden ambient electronica as part of Richie Hawtin’s M_nus mafia. Chambre69, Glasgow, Fri 9 Mar.
Supernova Randomly, Hobo is one of two exemplary acts on Richie Hawtin’s M_nus label playing in Glasgow this month, playing a stark, futuristic update of dancefloor-friendly techno. Melting Pot It’s been eleven years since Melting Pot began and Andrew Pirie and Simon Cordiner welcome a master of the disco- house style they excel in, New York’s Danny Krivit (Body & Soul). Xplicit & Wax:On Blood Music label party headlined by the boss, Fake Blood, and Scottish signings Clouds for some bone-rattling electro, crunchy techno and heavy bass action. Numbers This month’s guest is one to unite generations. Four Tet, has been quiet since collaborating with Burial and Thom Yorke last year – hopefully he’ll let us hear what he’s been up to. Sub Club, Glasgow, Fri 2 Mar.
This is Music The indie-electro club boasts a late live set from Dandy Riots (with vocals from Boko) for some thumping electro punk from the Foals, Young Fathers and Kele remix master. Sneaky Pete’s, Edinburgh, Fri 9 Mar.

Fonda Rae ‘Living In
Ecstasy’ (Mood II Swing mix) (Wave Music) has to be one of our favourite ever records. It’s now a classic, a timeless house track featuring a fabulous vocalist from the disco era in Fonda Rae and the superb house producer Mood II Swing, and a break to die for at the end. It’s hard to believe Manuel Gottsching E2-E4 (Inteam GmbH) is now over thirty years old, it was the work of a pioneering synthesiser genius and will never age. It’s so immediate it can be fitted into a house set, or it’s the perfect chill out record for afterwards. Like most of his work, Arthur Russell’s ‘That’s Us/Wild Combination’ (Rough Trade) is perplexingly peculiar and astonishingly beautiful. We think the 2004 compilation Calling Out of Context on which this was released represents his finest collection of songs, you can’t help but lose yourself in them.
Simon played David Joseph ‘You Can’t Hide (Your Love From Me)’ (Larry Levan mix) (Island Records) at the first ever Melting Pot, he played it at the most recent Melting Pot, and he’ll probably play it at Melting Pot eleven years from now. When we started this typified the sound we wanted to play at the club: deep, loose, dubbed out. Throw in the best drum outro ever and this tune’s a stone cold killer. It was also the track Greg Wilson used when he was the first UK DJ to mix live on television. More than any other record,
Double Exposure ‘My Love Is Free’ (Salsoul Records) has been Melting Pot’s last tune of the night. Gospel vocals, Rhodes piano, joyous strings, and a massive bassline - it’s pure emotion, total inspiration. If you’re not on the dance floor you might as well have stayed in.
