WWW.MUNDELLMUSIC.COM 82 THE LIST 5 Jan–2 Feb 2012
Previous events from Edinburgh-based Arika – such as their festivals Instal and Kill Your Timid Notion – have brought experimental sound artists together with philosophers, critics and open-minded punters. Arika12 is replacing both festivals, and launches with Episode 1. Billed as ‘a deliberately convivial hybrid of rare film screenings, performance and discussion,’ the organisers say they are encouraged by the growing appetite in Scotland for discussion of the arts, and the theories linked to it. Expect screenings of political arthouse films November (pictured) and Too Soon, Too Late, as well as chats with guest speakers afterwards, workshops and, if all goes to plan, informal brainstorm sessions in the CCA bar. See also Preview of the Year feature, page 16. ■ Episode 1: A Film is a Statement, CCA, Glasgow, Thu 19–Sun 22 Jan.
