The flautist, singer and sometime collaborator with FOUND, NUALA KENNEDY takes to the stage with Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy this month. But before that, she talks peppermint tea and Indonesian cooking with The List

What time is breakfast? Whenever hunger strikes. Tea or coffee? Always tea! Smoking or non-smoking? Non-smoking.

Sweet or savoury snacks? Savoury van-snacks: I have a minor addiction to those cheese puffs crisps. Wotsits or Cheetos, Cheesies . . . they have lots of names in different countries. Even the bargain basement versions are tasty.

What food do you miss when you tour? Anything I make at home; I like to cook. Who’s the best cook you know? I met a couple, called (believe it or not!) Dirk Driver and Titia Sprey, who invited us to their houseboat in Amsterdam. Titia made us an Indonesian meal, which was gorgeous. Singer AJ Roach was inhouse chef during the recording of my last record. He did a pretty amazing job.

What’s on your rider? Tea, peppermint tea, honey, red wine, micro brewed beers, fruit.

Which country/city has the best food? In Italy, even the truck stop places have gourmet meals. Do you eat out a lot? Yes, but mainly because I’m away from home a lot.

Do you drink onstage? Generally not, but maybe the odd time, if the gig calls for it . . . The launch for Nuala’s new album, Enthralled, is at City Halls, Glasgow, Sat 21 Jan. A large ensemble performance of Nuala’s ‘Astar’, featuring Will Oldham, Canadian trumpeter Daniel Lapp, New York violinist Dana Lyn and others is at the Royal Concert Hall, Glasgow, Fri 27 Jan.
