Celtic Connections MUSIC The festival of folk, roots and world music gets the year off to a vibrant start once again, with performances from bluegrass legend Bela Fleck (pictured), Francois and the Atlas Mountains, The Unthanks, King Creosote and Jon Hopkins, Hidden Orchestra and newly-minted List Award winners FOUND, plus multiple performances from Rachel Sermanni and Admiral Fallow’s Louis Abbot. There’s also a Woody Guthrie retrospective, paying respect to the legendary folk artist on the 100th anniversary of his birth, with a line-up of artists including Yim Yames (My Morning Jacket) and Will Johnson (Monsters of Folk). Shame FILM Director Steve McQueen and actor Michael Fassbender join forces again, following 2008’s Bobby Sands biopic Hunger. Co-written by McQueen and scribe- of-the-moment Abi Morgan, the film tells the story of Brandon, a New Yorker whose carefully cultivated private life – structured around his addiction to sex – is disrupted by the arrival of his sister Sissy (Carey Mulligan).
