15 DEC–5 JAN YOU’VE GOT 22 DAYS TO LIVE!
So, what is the Hot 100? Simply put it’s an annual talent list counting down our favourite artsy Scots of 2011. It’s controversial, but over the years it has come to be a pretty good barometer of the Scottish cultural climate. We put it together through a lengthy process of
nominating, voting and arguing (it’s particularly hard to measure the heat coming off a local gig promoter compared to a Hollywood director). We don’t put people in whose work we're indifferent to, and we also try not to put the same people in year-after-year, hence why you’ll see some big institutions have been omitted.
Disagree with it by all means, but we hope you see it in the same way as we do – as a snapshot of everything there is to love about living in Scotland.

Hot 100 2011 was another stand-out year for Scottish culture: when we weren’t talking about Kevin with Lynne Ramsay and Tilda Swinton, we were mining for diamonds with King Creosote and scooping the Turner with Martin Boyce. The Hot 100 is our way of recognising home grown talent from the last 12 months – see the full list from page 23.
