Knock knock . . . The man in the box is back. And this time it’s serious. All hail the return of the Doctor

T he wait is almost over. Never one to throw in one plot arc when six will do, the upcoming series of Doctor Who promises Nazi Berlin, creepy dolls, Cybermen, more River Song disclosures and revelations (probably) about the ‘death’ of the Doctor last season. Guest slots include appearances from James Cordon, Danny Mays, David Walliams and many more, as the Doctor crosses centuries and galaxies to discover his fate.

There is a sneak preview screening at Edinburgh Filmhouse on Fri 26 Aug, as part of this year’s Edinburgh International Television Festival. But if you’re not a delegate, worry not, as the new series of Doctor Who hits our Saturday night screens at the end of August. Doctor Who returns on BBC One, Sat 27 Aug, 7.10pm.

Plus, it’s a chance to get out of the city and enjoy a day away to East Lothian. This year’s line-up includes classical concerts courtesy of Alison Balsom, the Scottish Ensemble, Emily Hoile, Jennifer Koh and Stile Antico, as well as the appearance of six new venue spaces. We’re particularly taken with the idea of an evening of Bach at Lennoxlove on Tue 20 Sep. lammermuirfestival.co.uk
