Stirling Martyr Defiled Tolbooth, Jail Wynd,

Some of us here at The List have been fans of The National for five-odd years now. So when they brought out last year’s best-of-2010 list-topping album, High Violet, we loved the review that said, ‘If their 2005 album (Alligator) was the toast, then 2007’s (Boxer) was the beans on toast, and High Violet is very much the cheese on the beans on the toast.’ So when they brought out that Special Edition album version that was basically the Lea & Perrins. Read our interview with singer Matt Berninger at list.co.uk. Corn Exchange, Tue 23 Aug, part of The Edge; with Wye Oak, O2 Academy, Glasgow, Wed 24 Aug. (Rock & Pop)

WIN TICKETS TO AVETT

BROTHERS

Seth and Scott Avett are the eponymous

backbone to this

folk-rock act from North Carolina, although we’re told they bring along a few pals to assist them on tour. They’re likely to be playing

some material from their well- received 2009 album I and Love and You when they play at the Arches on Mon 22 Aug. If you’d like to pop along and see them, simply enter at list.co.uk/offers by the 22nd we’ll call you up on the day to arrange it. WIN TICKETS TO AMANDA FUCKING PALMER

The delightful Mrs Neil Gaiman (who also finds time to be one half of coinjoined twin singer- songwriter act Evelyn, Evelyn, and lead singer with alternative theatrical pop outfit Dresden Dolls) is appearing in a number of shows and pop-up gigs at the Edinburgh festivals this month. Thankfully, she’s also found the time to get through to Glasgow for a gig at the Arches on Fri 26 Aug. We’ve got two pairs of tickets to the gig up for grabs if your delicate little ears can handle the strong language, enter at list.co.uk/offers. WIN INTERPOL TICKETS

New York post-punkers Interpol are swinging by Glasgow’s O2 Academy on Tue 23 Aug. Even better, they’re accompanied on tour by English art- rock combo Everything Everything. Sounds to us like a cracking night out. If you want to go along, visit list.co.uk/offers to bag yourself one of three pairs of tickets.
