Clubs French Fries

PREVIEW NEW CLUB NIGHT OH MY DAYS La Cheetah, Glasgow, Sat 20 Aug.

‘I grew up going to nights like Numbers, Monox and Optimo, and more recently Stay Plastic and Fortified,’ says Martin Moffat. ‘All of whom have done or are still doing amazing things for Glasgow music. I’m just happy to get a chance to do something that might make people have a dance and a good night.’ It all sounds like simple fun for the co-promoter (alongside Euan Neilson of Killer Kitsch) of La Cheetah’s new semi-regular night Oh My Days, but they’re starting with a guest who will get people paying attention. ‘French Fries was someone that we both agreed we

liked and would like to see play in Glasgow,’ continues Moffat. ‘Although he’s not released that

much music, the remixes that he’s done have been good, my personal favourite being his remix of Girl Unit’s anthem ‘IRL’. His mixes for Fact magazine and his set at the Boiler Room sealed the deal for us I think.’ For his part French Fries aka 19-year-old Parisian Valentino Canzani promises ‘all the music that I love from 120bpm upwards’, including, amongst others, ‘Prince, Chicago house and UK bass’. Next up is a date with Oneman in October, of whom Moffat says, ‘I saw him play a while back for Fortified at the Art School and he absolutely killed it. I hate booking guests who’ve already played for someone else in Glasgow, but since he hasn’t played for about a year I thought it was time someone brought him back.’ After that, the plan’s very much dependant on how these dates go down.
