The Evol DJs take charge at this alternative disco night of indie, hip hop and a dash of electro, which features everything from Dizzee Rascal to The Cribs. Supa Bass at the Green Room. Confusion is Sex Weird and wonderful punk rock, glam techno, rockabilly burlesque at this Fringe Opening Party. The Bongo Club, 558 7604, Fri 5 Aug, 11pm–5am, £5 in advance; £8 (£7) on the door. Telefunken House heads are spoilt this weekend as another master hits Edinburgh, with Latin and Chicago beats from DJ Sneak. White Mink The ‘Electro Swing Speakeasy’ makes its Edinburgh debut. Nick Hollywood and The Correspondents play the opening weekend with many more across the fest. Substance Definitely keeping it underground Boddika (one half of Instra:Mental) puts in a live set of analogue techno and electro that mixes Detroit and hip hop influences. Devil Disco Club Classic disco, electro, soul and acid house beats from the DDC collective plus deep electronic discotronic sounds from mysterious live guest Lord of the Isles. The Bongo Club, 558 7604, Sat 6 Aug, 11pm–5am, £5 before midnight; £7 (£6) after.

Ultragroove Gareth Somerville’s mighty fine disco house night hosts ‘House City Coalition’ as he invites some of this favourite DJs to man the decks. Cabaret Voltaire, 220 6176, Sat 6 Aug, 11pm–5am, free before midnight; £8 (£5 students) after.

Born to be Wide A celebration of the Edinburgh music scene with live sets from Chasing Owls, Austen George, Capitals, Bwani Junction, Withered Hand, Rachel Sermanni and Lady North. Electric Circus, 226 4224, Sun 7 Aug, 9pm–3am, £3.
