Why just sit there and watch a Fringe performance when you could be helping out at one of these interactive shows?
The Big Sing-a-Long! Join singer Karine Polwart and local children aged 5–18 for an afternoon sing-a-long, where you can belt out numbers by Katy Perry, Bruno Mars and Take That. It’s like karaoke, but a darn sight classier. Queen’s Hall, 668 2019, 15 Aug, 2pm, £6 (£4).
Hansel and Gretel Patch of Blue Theatre really knows how to sell a show – it’s promised free sweets in the form of an edible house, which Hansel and Gretel invite you up on stage to tuck into. Given how tough it is to put bums on seats during the Fringe, other companies would do well to follow this lead. Let’s hope it doesn’t all end with sore teeth and trips to the dentist, though. C Soco, 0845 260 1234, 3–29 Aug (not 15), 12.30pm, £7.50–£9.50 (£5.50–£8.50). Movin’ Melvin Brown: Just Singing and Dancing . . . Throw snowballs, make snowmen and frolic in the white stuff at this popular show. Pleasance Courtyard, 556 6550, 6–29 Aug, 11.20am, £8 (£6). Previews 3–5 Aug, £5.
