WIN TICKETS TO NICOLAS JAAR
New York-born Nicolas Jaar is yet
to see his 22nd
birthday, but is already touted as one of the world’s hottest rising electronica stars. Easily compared to
the likes of James Blake, Jamie Woon and Mount Kimbie, he also bears musical resemblance to Matthew Dear, with distorted vocal idiosyncracies, glitchy electronics and satisfying drumbeats united by a silky-smooth production. He’s playing at the Arches (accompanied by resident Highlife DJs) to promote his debut album, Space is Only Noise, on Fri 29 Jul. To win one of two pairs of tickets, see list.co.uk/offers. See interview, page 65. WIN TICKETS TO NEIL COWLEY
One of the Edinburgh Jazz Festival’s many acts that make their name in the combination of genres, Neil Cowley specialises in ‘jazz for Radiohead fans’. He’s got experience in both classical and pop, although these days he’s more well known for his rock and funk-flavoured variations. We’ve got two pairs of tickets to see him play the Spiegeltent on Sun 31 Jul – to win one, enter at list.co.uk/offers. Part of the Edinburgh Jazz and Blues Festival.
WIN TICKETS TO FRINGE SHOW QING CHENG
What with the EIF concentrating on Eastern influences in 2011, it’s only fitting that there be a China Fringe Festival to run alongside it. One of the highlights of the programme is spectacular musical Qing Cheng, which aims to represent Taoist philosophy through music, dance, martial arts, multimedia and theatre. The show features at the Usher Hall from Fri 5–Sun 7 Aug; to win one of two pairs of tickets to the premiere on Friday afternoon, check out list.co.uk/offers.
HOW TO ENTER Visit list.co.uk/offers. Closing date for competitions is Tue 26 Jul. There is no cash alternative. Usual List rules apply.
