Glasgow Mod Weekender Four more days of beat groups, sweet soul and summertime ska sounds from Glasgow’s annual tribute to the Mod style. The Slam Tent The Glasgow boys have done it again: Leftfield, Dave Clarke, The Streets, Tiga, Bloody Beetroots and many more help them celebrate 15 years at T. T in the Park, Balado, 9 & 10 Jul.
Regulate Kicking it old skool as Edinburgh’s best hip hop jocks (including Nasty P, Fusion and MC Silvertongue) present a showcase of rap from across the decades. Cabaret Voltaire, Edinburgh, Fri 8 Jul. Atraccion Edinburgh’s Italian community launch this house and techno night. Matthais Tanzman guests (7 Jul) plus Manuel Gonzalez and Freedom B (9 Jul). Optimo in Dub Reggae, ska and dancehall from Twitch & Wilkes, with a West End Festival all-dayer at SWG3, complete with BBQ and outdoor stage, and an afterparty back at the Subbie. Playdate Brian d’Souza is usually found at home at Slabs of the Tabernacle over in Glasgow so it’s nice to see him in the East with his jackin’ Afrobeat cuts and heavy acid selections. Luftfunk Den Haan are one of Glasgow’s finest live bands, a dancefloor- smashing disco-sleaze duo. And this is their new monthly night, with Death Disco’s Jack Jones on guest duty. Hummingbird, Glasgow, Fri 24 Jun.
Code A long- running hit at Paisley’s Club 69, Code transfers to a new residency at Glasgow’s La Cheetah. Joining resident Nick M for this debut date will be Tommy Four Seven and CLR. La Cheetah, Glasgow, Sat 16 Jul.
Uberfest III For the Soundhaus’ third annual Uberfest expect 12 straight hours of harder edged techno from a vast array of residents from most of the venue’s regular nights. Soundhaus, Glasgow, Sat 16 Jul.

Crate DIGGING
Before he lays waste to the Slam Tent techno titan DAVE CLARKE takes us though his favourite albums, and you might be surprised by his choices . . .
I’m going to go completely vinyl, I haven’t actually played professionally with vinyl for at least nine years so I’m going to go ‘back in the box’. Devo Freedom of Choice (Warner Brothers) is one of those albums I bought as a kid for the cover because it has these mad men with shiny jackets and teapots on their heads. It was a happy accident: ‘Girl You Want’ is incredible; ‘Gates of Steel’ is amazing; it’s got ‘Whip It’ on there, which everyone knows.
PJ Harvey Let England Shake (Island) is one of those albums where you have to listen to it a few times because it’s not so immediate. It’s very fragile but a beautiful, beautiful album.
Next album has to be Queens of the Stone Age Songs for the Deaf (Interscope). It’s in my top three albums of all time. It has so much energy; and it also has irony, which for Americans is not always something they can draw upon. It’s very intense, the perfect car journey CD, before speed cameras were invented.
And then of course, my friends The Damned Machine Gun Etiquette (Chiswick). It’s definitely a Desert Island Disc for me. Perfection from beginning to end, I have probably listened to this more than any other album by a factor of 20.
Finally ABC The Lexicon of Love (Mercury). I was having dinner with some dance music guys – Dubfire, Chris Leibing and people like that – it just came up by accident and it turned out that not only are we all fans, we know the lyrics in their entirety. Most people that will read this and know who I am will go ‘where’s the electronic stuff?’ That’s all on my hard drive, it’s safe, don’t worry. ■ Dave Clarke plays the Slam Tent at T in the Park on Sat 9 Jul.
