American gospel band Blind Boys of Alabama have notched up nigh-on seven decades in the music industry, creating a gospel-blues sound that spans many genres – and has led to collaborations with Lou Reed, The Eagles, plus country-superstars Willie Nelson and Hank Williams Jr. After performing at last year’s Edinburgh International Festival as part of The Gospel at Colonus they are returning as headliners for Southern Fried – Scotland’s celebration of America’s roots music. There will be Cajun songwriters The Blind Boys playing songs from their new album Take the High Road, gospel workshops and, of course, plenty Cajun food . . . ■ Perth Concert Hall, Perth, Fri 22 Jul. Part of the Southern Fried Festival, various venues, Perth, Fri 22–Sun 24 Jul. See southernfriedfestival.co.uk for more details.
