WeLike The things making our world just that little bit better

He’s ‘irie man,’ and we like him for it. Rastamouse, the pocket-sized, skateboarding, reggae-loving mouse who has

recently found fame on CBeebies may have ruffled a few parents’ feathers, but we are siding with Charlie Brooker on this pertinent cultural debate, and saying Rastamouse is just the kind of multi-cultural (not

to mention effortlessly cool) character British kids should be growing up with. (That, and the fact he finally got us talking about something other

than My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding.) We’ll

drop a proverb in the List office at the drop of the proverbial hat. So we very much liked mofaha’s online study of the science of proverbs, where graphs and stats are used to test the validity of expressions like ‘least said, soonest mended’, where ‘amount said’ is plotted against ‘speed of repair’ (nverbs.blogspot.com). Fascinating stuff, and more than a little reminiscent of the classic Big Traincake factory sketch (bit.ly/9BDsLX). We recommend it. After all, all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.
