THE STASI ARE AMONG US CCA, Tue 22 Feb, 10am The title comes from the criticism Thomas Heise received from his film tutor, back when he submitted this piece on East Berlin’s petty criminals back in 1980. Heise will also be present to discuss filmmaking in the GDR with Claus Loser.

Director Richard Ayoade (you’d know him as Moss from The It Crowd) adds another string to his acting/writing/ comedy bow by directing this Welsh rite of passage film featuring Sally Hawkins and Paddy Considine. Also showing at GFT, Sat 19 Feb, 3.45pm.

Martin Scorsese concentrates on the landmark post-war cinema of Elia Kazan in this documentary, rather than his controversial status as an informant for the McCarthyite House of Un-American Activities Committee. Also showing at GFT, Sun 20 Feb, 11.15am. Harry Shearer best known for his work in Spinal Tap and giving voice to Mr Burns, Ned Flanders and countless other inhabitants of Springfield uses his comedic skills to broach a much more serious topic: Hurricane Katrina, and the American government’s unsatisfactory response in its aftermath.
