Artists Eilidh MacAskill and Robert Walton take over a corner of the Arches café/bar to turn it into an old country manor with a distinctly wonky take on Scottish culture.

An insightful exploration of middle- aged children and their feelings towards their ageing parents as they all face the future and its inevitable deteriorations. Here’s a tip if you’re trying to be a secret society: don’t publish all the details of your meetings on a website for listings magazines to find. Lucky they did, though, because this sounds fun: artists of all persuasions gather to try out new ideas and perform, with this first session featuring Miss Leggy Pee, Drew Taylor, The Creative Martyrs and many more. By the way, there’s a secret password, but you’ll have to work that one out for yourself.
■ GLOBETROTTERS HOSTEL 56 Berkeley St, Charing Cross, 0141 221 7880. Snapshots Thu 10–Sat 12 Feb, 7.30pm. £5 (£3). A series of short scenes written by Campbell Lauder in which characters face isolation for various reasons from stuttering, to being a carer, to transgender issues. The pieces are performed by new Edinburgh-based company Paradoxical Ink, which seeks to highlight the issues facing disenfranchised sections of society. ■ IVORY BLACKS 56 Oswald Street, 248 4114. Scarlett Fever Valentine’s Night Fri 11 Feb, 7.30pm. £8 in advance; £10 on the door. Experience Parisian nightlife with Scarlett Fever and her gorgeous helpers, including Dolly Tartan, who will be performing her apparently infamous ‘Let Them Eat Cake’ routine. Intriguing.

A man is sent for psychological assessment following a violent incident at the factory where he has worked all of his life in this translation of a play by Venezuelan playwright Rodolfo Santana. Ticket price includes a pie and drink. See preview, page 84. A Play, A Pie & A Pint: The Archivist and Instructions for Butterfly Collectors Mon 14–Sat 19 Feb, 1pm. £8–£12.50. Two short plays from the Argentinean Theatre for Identity movement to squeeze into a lunchtime. First is Marina Eva Perez’s Instructions for Butterfly Collectors, about a young girl’s dances with imagination in a dusty basement, then it’s Hector Levy’s The Archivist, in which a girl is visited by a sinister man on an intrusive hunt for information. Ticket price includes a pie and drink.
