This group exhibition features artists such as Matei Bejenaru, Ross Birrell, Francis Cape, Jens Haaning, David Harding, Ângela Ferreira and Eva Merz, whose work explores aspects of the society they live in politics, culture, economy, living conditions and social structures. Also included is information from the Orwell Archive, University College of London, relating to the 1937 publication of The Road to Wigan Pier, which documented poverty in the north-east of England prior to World War II. This exhibition features beautiful traditional renderings of flora from artists including Dianne Sutherland, Fiona Strickland, Jenny Matthews, Lynne Henderson and Mary- Clare Cornwallis.

HUNTERIAN MUSEUM & ART GALLERY University of Glasgow, 82 Hillhead Street, 330 5431. Mon–Sat 9.30am–5pm. FREE Past, Present and Future: Caring for William Hunter’s Prints Until Sat 12 Feb. Prints and paintings from William Hunter’s collection, including works by Michaelangelo and Rembrandt.

FREE Scottish Glass at Kelvingrove Until Sun 1 Jul. This year marks the 400th anniversary of glassmaking in Scotland, and to celebrate Kelvingrove presents a unique long-term exhibition of glass art and artefacts from the 18th century to the present day. FREE The River Runs Through It Until Sun 30 Jan. Works created by a selection of artists in response to the construction of Glasgow’s new Riverside Museum and the industrial heritage of Clydeside. The artworks are all available for purchase and feature pieces by 2010 Aspect Prize winner Patricia Kain along with Peter Howson and Adrian Wiszniewski. THE LIGHTHOUSE 11 Mitchell Lane, 221 6362. Mon & Wed–Sat 10.30am–7pm; Tue 11am–5pm. FREE V&A at Dundee Tue 1–Fri 18 Feb. The six shortlisted designs for Scotland’s new design centre on Dundee waterfront are all on show. Work on the winning design from Kengo Kuma & Associates is scheduled to start work in 2012, but you can still view the other submissions, which came from architects all over the globe keen to be a part of this high-profile project.
