20 JAN-3 FEB YOU’VE GOT 15 DAYS TO LIVE! Lots going on at List Towers this last fortnight. We’ve pulled in a new columnist, Dundee’s most pedantic emailer Bob Servant for our new agony uncle column (see page 88). We’ve also been out and about with Peter Mullan, the phenomenally talented Scottish actor and director (and thoroughly decent bloke) considering the cinematic qualities of concrete housing estates, afterwards visiting some Glasgow and Edinburgh cafés to find the thickest, most decadent hot chocolates in the cities (see page 22). Throughout it all we’ve been indecently perky. There’s no point succumbing to January blues. After all,
January is the month the Chinese Flowering Plum Tree flourishes (see page 12). Go nature!

Cheap and cheerful It’s the post-Christmas lull, and conventional wisdom has it that everyone must toil along in austerity until the next pay packet. Not so, say we! We’ve asked around and got some of Scotland’s finest chefs, comedians, thespians, musicians and designers to tell us their tips on enjoying yourself for little or no cost. Read their suggestions from page 10.
