Conor O’Brien and friends have come a long way since their first Dublin performance in 2008. At that point, they had just seven songs, penned by O’Brien, and had rehearsed twice. Between then and now, they’ve released debut EP Hollow Kind and Mercury-nominated album Becoming a Jackal, picked up a Q Award nomination for Breakthrough Artist, and featured on a few tours alongside Neil Young (who O’Brien cites as a big influence) and Tracy Chapman. Solid, melodic tunes with soulful and tender lyrics (plus more than a passing resemblance to Conor Oberst) give their live shows an eerie beauty. ■ Oran Mor, Glasgow, Mon 6 Dec.
