PAUL OAKENFOLD ALBUMS
Fans of 90s trance music may remember sweating
it out to Paul Oakenfold’s legendary Goa
Mix of 1994, first broadcast as an Essential Mix on Radio 1. The session blended film scores (Bladerunner, Dracula) with artists such as PPK and Saint Etienne. Sixteen years on, after much legal wrangling, the session has been remixed as The Goa Mix 2011, featuring the original tracks, plus extras, such as the trance remix of Barber’s ‘Adagio for Strings’. See page 70 for details on how to win one of three copies. 80S REWIND TOUR TICKETS
When we first heard the words ‘80s Rewind – The Christmas Tour’, we must admit that we doubted the wisdom of such a venture. However, our fears have been assuaged: the line-up includes some of the 80s’ most bonafide hit- makers, including Kool and the Gang, Sister Sledge, Howard Jones, T’Pau and more. Would you care for a ‘Celebration’? Do you describe yourself as ‘The Greatest Dancer’? Well, you’re in luck, as we have three pairs of tickets to the show at the SECC on Sun 5 Dec. JOHNNY FLYNN TICKETS AND VINYL
Folk-rocker Johnny Flynn has enjoyed heaps of critical adoration for second album Been
Listening, out in June this year. After taking steps to firmly cement himself in the nu-folk pantheon (touring with Mumford & Sons, collaborating with Laura Marling on newest single, ‘The Water’), Flynn’s UK tour reaches Edinburgh’s Liquid Room on Tue 7 Dec. Five lucky winners will each receive a seven- inch vinyl copy of ‘The Water’; one especially lucky beggar will also win a pair of tickets to the Liquid Room gig. 68 THE LIST 18 Nov–2 Dec 2010

Kenny Anderson is fond of playing gigs with a difference – at his Homegame appearances this year, for example, audience members were encouraged to record brand new material unintended for commercial release, if only to underline how much better the live experience was. Now he’s embarking upon a ‘World Tour of Fife’, playing seven different towns across seven days, with each night featuring a different album from KC’s back catalogue. Support will be variously provided by the current cream of Scottish folk rock, including Gummi Bako, HMS Ginafore, Withered Hand, Ziggy Campbell of FOUND and more. To find out when and where he’s playing, visit www.fencerecords.com. ■ Various venues, Fife, Sun 21–Sat 27 Nov.
