Liana Moran graduated from Edinburgh College of Art in 2010 with a BA Honours in Drawing and Painting. Her current work looks into modern technology within mass communication: she’s interested in the notion that people nowadays have a fear of not being ‘connected’ and also a fear of being excessively ‘connected’ – to mobile phones, internet and television. Key concepts that interest Liana are objects and machines such as TV aerials, mobile phone masts, defunct devices, wireless transmitters and the image of the Cyborg, looking at
a more visual way of displaying the (interior and exterior) impacts of technology on humans. The definition of a Cyborg as a person whose physiological functioning is aided by or dependent upon a mechanical or electronic device, is one that Liana feels is particularly relevant to her generation. Liana Moran’s work can currently be seen as part of the Jerwood Drawing Prize 2010 exhibition at the Jerwood Space in London until Sun 7 November. ■ www.lianamoran.com www.thisiscentralstation.com
