78 THE LIST 21 Oct–4 Nov 2010
Tweak Bird
The fraternal duo from Illinois that make up Tweak Bird are keen to avoid easy comparisons: hence, you get driving, bass-heavy, Robert Rodriguez-style riffs, quickly followed up by lonesome saxophone solos; MGMT- esque vocal lines, supplanted by thundering drum riffs or flute breaks. Rather than carry on making almost- but-not-quite-accurate references, it’d probably be best if you just make up your own mind by going to see them. Further incentive, as if you needed it, is provided at the Captain’s Rest gig by the lead-heavy riffage and distorted feedback glory of Holy Mountain. ■ Sneaky Pete’s, Edinburgh, Tue 26 Oct; With Holy Mountain, Captain’s Rest, Glasgow, Wed 27 Oct.
