Alex Tobin

Alex Tobin is a recent graduate from Edinburgh College of Art. In 2008, he lived and studied as a foreign resident in the city of Kyoto: an experience that has shaped his work since. Tobin’s multi- disciplinary work encompasses performance, drawing, film, music, installation and digital art. He often extends the unusual properties of computer programming into physical space, using custom software to control tangible elements of installations or performances. This weird misinterpretation of rules runs throughout his visual imagery too, as he evokes bad dreams, Asian folk stories, pseudo-philosophy, hyper-surreal sports events and haunted restaurants. Most recently, Tobin has been designing for Edinburgh-based Tightlaced Theatre, and exhibiting in Embassy Gallery’s 2010 graduate show Meatforce. www.tobinalex.com www.thisiscentralstation.com
