JULIA SMITH Julia Smith is a ceramicist working from the Deepfired Ceramic Studio in Govan, Glasgow. She makes a range of ceramics intended for everyday use, from bowls, plates, cups and mugs to sugar pots, clocks, spoons, buttons and brooches. By intentionally leaving the marks that occur accidentally during the making process, such as fingerprints in soft clay and wet slip or runs from a thick glaze application, Smith tries to evoke a feeling of comfort, her patterns telling their own stories with small pieces of the past reworked and put into the present. ■ www.juliasmithceramics.com ■ www.deepfired.net ■ www.folksy.com/shops/JuliaSmithCeramics ■ www.deepfired.etsy.com
