RETAIL THERAPY Re: Butterfly Kisses It’s so refreshing to see a shop with different things in it, not only for the Southside, but for Glasgow. It is an independent gem, and these don’t come along these days so much. I have become a regular now and love going into the shop. Skirving Street has become a great place to go, what with The Deli, Beanscene, The Dresser Room and the likes. Southside Shopaholic Comment posted at List.co.uk

WILD THING Re: Where The Wild Things Are Spike Jonze interview I feel compelled to offer a bestowal of high praise for the film Where the Wild Things Are. It’s a ‘refreshingly’ unpolished [literally] unadulterated expectation of a Hollywood film. Warner Bros et al should be proud for putting their neck on the line. I (38) loved it, as did my daughter (8) and her friend. Well done Spike Jonze for not prescribing to public opinion or perception. Viva WTWTA. Bridget, Charlestown Comment posted at List.co.uk

LETTER OF THE FORTNIGHT

THANKS FOR THE ADD Re: The Hot 100 2009 I wanted to say thank you so much for including Glasgow PodcART in your ‘Hot 100’ list. Little things like this can help validate what we do, so we are all very grateful. We started Glasgow PodcART as a desperate bunch of

artists and musicians who genuinely wanted to create something unique which could act as a support system for the wider arts fraternity in Glasgow. It has cost each of us involved a fair amount of money and it has taken a lot of hard work but we love being able to help lesser known musicians and artists, we love getting to see and hear all the new material sent to us and we also still can’t believe people enjoy listening to us talking utter shite about it. Acknowledgement from publications such as The List validates us, which in turn validates the content and makes it easier for us to promote the talent we find.

Thank you again, from the pits of our stomachs to the tips of our eyelashes. We salute you! Team Podcart, Glasgow

THE LETTER OF THE ISSUE WILL RECEIVE ONE BOTTLE OF THE BLACK GROUSE WHISKY

on Avatar, I have to say that, although I do want to see this film, largely due to the technology of it etc, I was extremely pleased to see the issues you raised in the piece given voice. ‘Dissent is the highest form of patriotism’, as the saying goes. My own patriotism is based on

belief in the free human being unconstrained by any particular boundary. As media now has a global reach, I think your views on Avatar as ‘a media hoodwink’ qualify as a form of patriotism. I’m watching a breakdown of Avatar just now, based on the idea it is as propaganda. There

are plenty of these analyses all over YouTube and in the press.

Thanks again. Free and independent thinkers are very welcome. Dave Kenny

BELIEVE THE HYPE Re: Avatar Do not be put off by the reviews: yes Avatar has a fairly slim plot, however, it is a brilliant spectacle. The 3D production design is stunning. Everything from the space ships to the planet Pandora are truly amazing and like nothing seen on screen before. I saw it at the IMAX, which took a bit of getting used to when the images appeared to be in my lap, but loved every minute. I will be going to see it again for sure! LEAVING GLASVEGAS Re: The Hot 100 2009 Oh you fickle magazine. You’ve got all the usual schmindies (Frightened Rabbit, Twilight Sad, Jetpacks etc) swarming all over your Hot 100, and nary a mention of last year’s number one, Glasvegas? Forget about that Mercurcy nomination did you? Eh? James, Glasgow
