5 YOU THINGS MIGHT NOT KNOW ABOUT

JIM JEFFRIES 1 Australian potty mouth Jim Jeffries comes from quite a go- getting family. His dad once managed Fox Studios (‘He used to get the rent off George Lucas’) while his brother is a rising star of the Young Liberals back home: ‘they’re a bit like the Tories, so no one’s too happy about it.’

2 Despite his stage presence being compared in style to Bill Hicks and Doug Stanhope, Jeffries isn’t here to change the world: ‘I’m just an idiot who will tell you what I know.’ 3 Fear doesn’t play much of a part in this man’s life any more, not since he was held hostage in his own home by armed robbers, assaulted on stage by an audience member at the Manchester Comedy Store and presented a show for the Adult Channel. Oh, and he even had a brush with penile cancer a few years back. However, he did once confess to being slightly phased by the withering stare of Moira Stuart when he said the word ‘bird’ during an episode of Have I Got News for You.

4 He was at the University of Perth alongside Heath Ledger and was told of the actor’s death by Omid Djalili when the Aussie came off stage. Didn’t stop him doing a joke at Ledger’s expense a few weeks later, just after having a go at Kylie’s cancer. I think we all know what we’re dealing with here. 5 Jeffries has fled his London base with his emergence as a raw talent in the US, now calling Venice, California his home. This has now somewhat curiously resulted in his surname being changed to Jefferies for American consumption. Let’s hope they don’t get him mixed up with the identically spelt laugh-a- minute Kilmarnock FC manager. (Brian Donaldson) Barrowland, Glasgow, Fri 30 Oct.
