William Sinclair: Aspects of the Clyde This exhibition of paintings and drawings by William Sinclair (1930–1997) captures the once bustling, now
dormant harbours and docks of Greenock and Port Glasgow where the artist lived. Educated at Glasgow School of Art in the 50s, and a respected principal art teacher in Greenock, Sinclair approached his metier with an integrity that is unheard of in this commercially-driven age: he painted purely to express his emotions and even bought back his own paintings whenever the opportunity arose. Aspects of the Clyde features work that has remained unseen since Sinclair died 12 years ago, including ‘Buildings and Cranes’ (pictured, above). ■ Cyril Gerber Fine Art, Glasgow, until Fri 23 Oct.
