Slow Food Edinburgh is part of the international Slow Food Movement, which began in Italy as a reaction to the spread of fast food and the emergence of convenience as the guiding principle in how and what we eat. Slow Food encourages us to take a little more time to understand and appreciate the food we eat, highlighting the basic philosophy that good, simple, tasty food can be a daily source of pleasure in our lives. Groups of Slow Food supporters are based in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Ayrshire, Perth and other parts of Scotland and the UK. For more information about the movement, local activities and membership call 0845 370 7569, or go to www.slowfoodedinburgh.co.uk
‘A firm defence of quiet material pleasure is the only way to oppose the universal folly of Fast Life. Our defence should begin at the table.’ Slow Food Manifesto, 1989
